AWS introduced a new aws-ai-ml agent skill for Amazon SageMaker optimized generative AI inference on October 5, 2026. The goal is to make coding agents more useful when engineers optimize model serving and benchmark inference.
What changed
The skill is delivered through the Agent Toolkit and gives compatible coding agents specialized knowledge about generative-AI inference optimization. AWS names Kiro, Claude Code, and Codex as examples.
Why an agent skill matters
Generic coding assistants know programming patterns, but infrastructure optimization depends on provider-specific tools, configuration options, benchmarks, and operational constraints. A structured skill can package repeatable domain knowledge instead of requiring every engineer to encode the same instructions in prompts.
Inference optimization
As AI services move into production, model selection, batching, memory use, hardware utilization, quantization, concurrency, and quality tradeoffs become major engineering variables. Agent assistance can reduce manual investigation, but measurements still need to come from real workloads.
